Highlights from 2021, by the numbers

SJS 2021 By the numbers

2021 has sure been a wild ride — can we get a heck yeah?! At the studio it’s been a year of transitions, evolutions, and unexpected change. After 2020 hurtled Zoom into our lives 24/7 (and we realized it was pretty great), we’re now implementing new technologies left and right. It’s exciting!

As our industry continues to work its way past COVID, we are committed to being a rock-solid resource as the currents change. As always, our clients have a lot of pressure to represent the ever-changing trends in the commercial business of advertising, and we are poised to keep helping them, in every way we can in 2022.

To celebrate another year, here’s a little recap of 2021 by the numbers:

  • 20 — years in business
  • 9 — newsletters sent this year, including this one. (Ok, we know we missed a few, but who’s counting?)
  • An obnoxious amount. Times Joe has quoted Succession. You know when something gets stuck in your head? … He just can’t stop.
  • 365 cups of tea drank each morning by Yamilca
  • 1200+ — cups of Bustelo consumed by Joe (indisputably the best coffee ever)
  • 365 times David disagreed with Joe because he insists Chock Full o’Nuts is the best — he drinks 4 cups a day!
  • 1 (that’s all it takes!) — times Jim Shooter said yes to offering script review services for SJS clients
  • 7 — bags of Cheetos Joe ate to research the Mila/Ashton/Shaggy Superbowl storyboard (until he realized his orange fingers started interfering with his work)
  • 30+ — times Joe and David had to redraw faces because of last-minute casting changes
  • 3 — times Joe watched Jurassic Park (to research the UN “Don’t Choose Extinction” dinosaur spot, of course. Actually, it was 5 since we’re counting)
  • 1 — iRobot purchased for the studio (because the spots we worked on was so compelling, we couldn’t resist)
  • 20 — days spent on a much-needed vacation
  • 15 — jobs completed while on this “vacation” 🙂
  • 2 feature films, 1 Hulu series, and 1 short film, and a host of other projects we can’t talk about
  • 5 — commercials drawn for state lotto: NY, NJ, and Illinois!
  • 365 — days we didn’t win the actual lottery (but here’s hoping!)
  • 1000 — horsepower of GMC’s Hummer EV, the world’s first all-electric supertruck. Seriously. Doing the boards for this Hummer commercial blew our minds a little bit.
  • 11 — Storyboard reel commercials Alton created for our YouTube videos
  • 1 — retail environment designed (it’s going to be at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida)
  • 10 —  episodes worth of boards created for Amy Schumer’s new Hulu series, Life & Beth
  • All of it! Love and appreciation for our clients!

We wish you a tidy wrap-up to your 2021, and a 2022 with infinite possibilities!
