Women + Super Bowl

What an amazing beginning to 2023. It started in Savannah, where I met 30 fellow colleagues who helped me figure out where SJS is headed, two of whom are SJS clients. I got incredible information, advice, support, and moments of clarity. We have so many plans, and I’m so inspired! The business retreat reminded me that it takes a village. And it just so happens that this village was 95% made up of fierce, women business owners (and two brave men!). Not only did I leave with plenty of ideas, but I also left feeling seen and supported. And hopefully, I was able to leave them feeling the same way! (One takeaway? Work on your future self. Not just the day-to-day — but the future version of yourself and your business.)

Leaving Georgia full of inspiration, I started thinking about all the strong women in my life — my mom (who became a business owner in her late teens in El Salvador) and my hard-working sisters, and sisters-in-law, who have achieved great success while juggling it all. Thank you. You have each played a role in who I am today!

I also want to acknowledge my mentors, Ilise Benun and Nancy Ruzow, who hosted the amazing Savannah Retreat, my female artists, and all the women producers I work with! You’re amazing!

When Joe was interviewed about Storyboards to Saria (which was the first time my name appeared in the credits of a film, let alone an Oscar-nominated film!), he said the world of commercials, short films, and movies is “full of unsung Yamilcas” — women who play large and too-often behind-the-scenes roles in productions.

I was surprised to see my name, but now I realize he’s right. So, for all the behind-the-scenes women — this one’s for you!

Speaking of empowering women, we also got to work on some great Super Bowl ads starring women. We were thrilled that our commercials highlight woman roles — Did you see them?

Avocados from Mexico, starring Ana Faris, considering the question: What if Eve had eaten an avocado instead?

Flag football, starring superstar Diana Flores, shows how women are taking this sport into the future.

So, thanks to my village. And thanks to all the women who support and inspire me.

We can dream, succeed, achieve, and move to first class. Let’s make history!
